Inorganic soil

Soil material composed mainly of mineral particles such as sand, silt, and clay, with little organic matter.

  • Soil

    The upper layer of earth consisting of mineral particles, organic matter, water, and air, essential for plant growth and ecosystems.

  • Sand

    Soil particles between 0.05 and 2 mm in diameter, giving soil a gritty texture and good drainage.

  • Silt

    Soil particles between 0.002 and 0.05 mm in diameter, giving soil a smooth texture and moderate fertility.

  • Clay

    Soil particles smaller than 0.002 mm in diameter, known for high surface area, water-holding ability, and plasticity. Also used as a soil textural class.

  • Organic matter

    All organic material in soil, from fresh residues to stable humus, crucial for fertility and structure.
